The rock-hewn churches of Tigray

Just a couple of pictures due to really slow internet... but I spent today - my only touristy day of the trip - exploring some 800 yr old churches (a couple are more like caves!) carved out of the mountains here in Tigray.  There were even more cute kid encounters, and a lot of magical experiences.  As I told my snow-woman (is that a word?), it was a little like going cave exploring, but on the top of a mountain, with centuries old art inside, in a remote part of Africa that was only really "discovered" about 50 years ago.  Definitely one of the most inspiring, adventurous things I have ever done.
